President Trump has signed an executive order to fast-track US deep-sea mining, aiming to break China’s grip on
critical minerals.
This move has sparked outrage from the UN, EU, China, and environmental groups, who argue the US is
ignoring international rules.
The US insists it’s not bound by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, saying, “Seabed
mining is a lawful use of the high seas open to all States.” The European Union is moving
to review its association agreement with Israel over concerns about human rights violations in Gaza.
While some EU countries push for sanctions against Israeli officials, others—like Hungary—are blocking tougher measures.
Critics say the EU has been too slow, with one lawmaker stating, “It has taken the European Union
20 months just to consider action against Israel’s war crimes.” Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, says he’s
pulling back from politics to focus on Tesla.
After spending $277 million in the last election cycle, Musk told the Qatar Economic Forum, “I’m going to
do a lot less in the future.
I think I’ve done enough.” He’s also stepped away from his White House cost-cutting role, saying he no
longer sees a reason for major political spending—unless things change.
Recent conferences and opinion pieces are calling for a return to the principles of the historic Bandung Conference—solidarity,
anti-colonialism, and peaceful coexistence.
As the US steps back from global leadership, countries like China, India, and Brazil are pushing for a
more inclusive world order.
Meanwhile, an international conference in Serbia marked 80 years since World War II, urging scholars to rethink the
foundations of global cooperation.
