In a major move, EA has canceled its highly anticipated Black Panther video game and closed Cliffhanger Games,
the studio behind it.
The game was set to be a single-player, open-world adventure in Wakanda, but EA is now focusing on
its core franchises like Battlefield and The Sims.
This decision comes with more layoffs, as EA sharpens its strategy on what it calls 'the most significant
growth opportunities.' While fans are disappointed, Marvel’s partnership with EA continues, with an Iron Man game still in
development.
And for those hoping to play as Black Panther, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is still on the
way from Skydance New Media.
New York City is leveling up with its first annual NYC Video Game Festival on May 31!
The event will feature esports competitions, indie game demos, and the finals of the Minecraft Education Battle of
the Boroughs, where students use Minecraft to solve real city challenges.
Plus, college teams will battle it out in Fortnite and Valorant, and The Quad Gods, the world’s first
all-quadriplegic esports team, will compete.
This festival kicks off NYC’s Summer of Games, promising more gaming events all season long.
FromSoftware is shaking things up with Nightreign, a fast-paced, co-op-focused spin on the Elden Ring universe.
Instead of a sprawling solo adventure, Nightreign is all about quick, intense multiplayer expeditions, demanding tight teamwork and
strategy.
Reviewers say, 'Nightreign makes Elden Ring look like a tea party.' While it may not appeal to every
fan, it’s a bold new direction for co-op lovers.
Splatoon turns 10!
Nintendo’s colorful shooter broke the mold by drawing inspiration from pop culture, street fashion, and even tofu, before
settling on its iconic squid characters.
The game’s unique style and community-driven events like Splatfests have made it a lasting favorite.
As one developer put it, 'We wanted to create a new kind of game, without worrying about trying
to fit into existing genres.' Hideo Kojima has confirmed a Death Stranding anime is in the works, alongside
a live-action film.
Kojima says he wants to 'pursue the expressive potential of cinema' and expand the game’s universe.
In other preservation news, one of the rarest games ever, TRIPITAKA, has finally been preserved online, ensuring gaming
history isn’t lost.
Plus, Myst fans can now access hours of behind-the-scenes footage, thanks to the Video Game History Foundation.
