In the final debate before Canada’s April 28 election, Liberal leader Mark Carney and Conservative Pierre Poilievre clashed
over affordability, crime, and the environment.
Carney, new to the PM role, distanced himself from Justin Trudeau, saying, “I am a very different person.”
Poilievre hit back, calling the last decade a “lost Liberal decade.” Donald Trump’s tariffs and annexation talk have
shaken Canada.
Carney declared, “They want our land, our resources, our water.
We will stand up against Trump.” He promised targeted tariffs and stronger internal trade.
Poilievre, meanwhile, is struggling with comparisons to Trump, with 60% of Canadians viewing him unfavorably.
Indigenous voters face a dilemma: participate in a system they often see as colonial, or vote to influence
change.
Carney disavowed his father’s past comments on residential schools.
Poilievre faces backlash for past remarks and defending a candidate who denied genocide.
Indigenous leaders are watching closely.
With polls favoring Liberals and Conservatives, smaller parties like the NDP and Bloc Québécois are struggling.
NDP’s Jagmeet Singh pushed hard in the debate, saying, “You can’t entrust all the power to Mr.
Carney.” Bloc leader Blanchet focused on Quebec’s interests, but both risk major seat losses.
Despite sharp disagreements, the debate remained surprisingly civil.
Carney and Poilievre even shared a laugh and handshake post-debate.
A rare sight in today’s political climate, and a reminder that Canadian politics still values decorum.
