Stop mixing up there, their, and they're like millions of people do every day.
Here's the fastest way to never confuse them again.
There contains the word here - it's about location or existence.
Think 'over there' or 'there are cookies.' Their shows possession, like 'their house' or 'their opinion.' They're is
simply they are contracted.
If you can't substitute 'they are' in your sentence, don't use they're.
There is your location word.
Picture the word 'here' hiding inside 'there' - both point to places or existence.
'Put it over there by the window.' 'There are three reasons why.' 'There seems to be a problem.'
Every time you use there, you're either pointing somewhere or stating that something exists.
The 'here' connection makes this foolproof - location and existence, that's it.
Their means ownership - it belongs to them.
Connect it to 'heir' which is also about ownership and inheritance.
'Their car broke down.' 'Their kids love pizza.' 'Their decision surprised everyone.' If you can replace 'their' with
'his,' 'her,' or 'our' and the sentence still works, you've got it right.
Their always comes before a noun that belongs to multiple people or things.
They're equals they are, nothing more, nothing less.
This contraction trick works every single time - if you can't substitute 'they are' in your sentence, then
they're is wrong.
'They're going to the movies' becomes 'They are going to the movies.' 'They're excited about vacation' becomes 'They
are excited about vacation.' Simple substitution test eliminates all confusion instantly.
No exceptions to this rule exist.
Master test: 'Their going there because they're excited.' Only one version works in each spot.
Their shows ownership of the action, there indicates location, they're contracts they are.
Practice with this sentence until it becomes automatic.
Most grammar mistakes happen when we rush - slow down for two seconds and apply these simple rules.
Your writing credibility depends on getting these basic words right every time.
